(BRUSSELS) - Retail sales in the eurozone fell by 0.6 percent in June from the May level and by 3.1 percent on a 12-month basis, a first estimate by the EU statistics office Eurostat showed on Tuesday.

Analysts polled by Dow Jones Newswires had expected a fall of 0.6 percent in the month, but of only 1.2 percent over 12 months.

Eurostat also revised sharply downwards its figures for May, to show sales rising by only 0.5 percent in the month instead of by 1.2 percent estimated previously.
