French plane in Mumbai to repatriate Europeans
(PARIS) - A French plane has arrived in Mumbai that could help repatriate up to 150 Europeans from the Indian metropolis that has come under attack from Islamist extremists, the French foreign ministry said Friday.
French consular officials and a medical assistance team were on board the chartered A310 airliner that arrived in Mumbai on Thursday, said spokesman Eric Chevallier.
"This plane can bring back French nationals but also other Europeans," he said.
About 20 Euro MPs and EU officials were caught up in the attacks that included luxury hotels in Mumbai, although none appear to have been injured, the European Parliament said Thursday.
The European delegation has sought assistance from the French consulate in Mumbai. France currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.
