Czech Republic launches Internet site ahead of EU presidency

02 December 2008, 00:42 CET

(PRAGUE) - The Czech Republic launched Monday a new, trilingual website to accompany its six-month presidency of the European Union that starts on January 1.

On the home page of the website, www.eu2009.cz, the country's Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek summed up the main priorities for the Czech presidency as "the 3 E's" -- economy, energy, and external relations.

Prague has yet to ratify the reforming Lisbon Treaty, which changes the basic rules for running the EU to make it more flexible.

In recent weeks, euroskeptic Czech President Vaclav Klaus has intensified his criticism of Brussels and the Lisbon charter.
