EU Agenda: Week Ahead - 6-10 May 2024
This week, EU employment and social affairs ministers meet with a focus on equality; the Foreign Affairs Council in its development configuration discusses Ukraine, Palestine and EU engagement in fragile contexts; the European Parliament awards the 2024 European Charlemagne Youth Prize; and, on Europe Day, 9 May, Parliament's seat in Luxembourg invites citizens to visit its buildings and take part in different activities to commemorate the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. At the next meeting of employment and social affairs ministers, the focus will be on equality. Ministers will hold a policy debate on the participation of women in public life. They are also expected to approve conclusions on the economic empowerment and financial independence of women as a pathway to gender equality, and will discuss the state of play of the equal treatment directive.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize: Parliament and the International Charlemagne Prize Foundation will award the 2024 European Charlemagne Youth Prize at a ceremony in Aachen. The prize is open to initiatives by young people aged 16-30 involved in projects that strengthen democracy and support active participation. EP Vice-president Marc Angel will attend the ceremony.

Open Day in Luxembourg/Europe Day: on 9 May, the European Parliament's seat in Luxembourg will invite citizens to visit its buildings and participate in different activities to commemorate the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. As a reminder, the European Parliament in Brussels and other institutions are open to the public on Saturday 4 May.
